The Seaford Public Library is committed to providing a welcoming and safe environment for all children who visit the library. Parents and caregivers are responsible for their children while their children are in the library, regardless of whether the parent or caregiver is in the library.
Children under the age of eight must be directly supervised by a responsible caregiver 14 years of age or older and may not be left alone in the library. Parents and caregivers are responsible for ensuring that children abide by the library’s policy – Maintenance of Public Order at Library Facilities.
During story-times and other programs, the parent or caregiver of a child under the age of eight must remain in the library and return to the programming area by the end of the program. For some programs, parents/caregivers are required to attend with their children.
When the safety of a child is in doubt, library staff may contact the Nassau County Police Department (7th Precinct) and/or other authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the child.
Children under the age of 14 left unattended at closing time may be deemed at risk. If a parent or caregiver does not arrive by 10 minutes after closing, staff may contact the Nassau County Police Department (7th Precinct).
